Our Story

Our Roots

Our Founder

We are a wholesale nursery on Long Island’s picturesque North Fork, founded in 1988 by Kathryn Pufahl. Kathy was a transformative figure in American horticulture. She elevated annuals from simple garden fillers to essential, stylish elements in outdoor spaces. Knowing instinctively, combination gardening was an accessible and artistic way to use annuals. She created high-quality, artistic plant combinations and innovative hanging garden collections. Her vision set new standards in garden design and inspired a generation of gardeners.  Although she is no longer with us, she leaves a lasting legacy.

Our Facility

We began with a single hoop house and have since grown to two locations spanning over 35 acres—remaining deeply rooted in the North Fork community. Our state-of-the-art, semi-automated greenhouses combine efficiency with care, allowing us to produce a diverse selection of distinctive and hard-to-grow plants at scale.

Our Growing Process

Our curated plant selection inspires creative design, with every plant a proven garden performer chosen for beauty, resilience, and relevance. We offer a diverse selection of annuals, perennials, grasses, dahlias, succulents, vines, native plants, and medicinal varieties in a range of sizes.

With decades of expertise in container design, we craft combinations that highlight a sophisticated mix of plants, textures, and colors—beautifully showcased in our hanging garden and container collections.

Everything is grown in-house for complete quality control. Most plants start from seed or cuttings and are nurtured in generous soil with mycorrhizal fungi and time-release fertilizers to build strong roots. Our preventive, integrated pest management approach minimizes the use of chemicals, relying on OMRI-certified, bio-based fungicides and insecticides to keep plants thriving throughout their life cycle.

State-of-the-art climate control, innovative software, and AI allow us to maintain this quality at scale, supporting our plants, our team, and our continued growth.
